As a middle school teacher with many responsibilities wikis' if used properly by my students could help me immensely in the aspect of grading, reteaching, setting up rubrics for students to follow and collaborating with several subjects/or teachers. As the educational setting has changed immensely since i was a public school student 20 some years ago. Technology has either divided the teaching methods of some teachers and enhanced the teaching methods of others. As a here and now teacher i realized my deficiencies in some areas but the presences of technology has and will help me out in some way. The use of Wiki's in my classroom has given me the opportunity to collaborate with my colleagues in team teaching or projects that will help us collaborate. Based on the fact that are conferences may not be aligned at times wiki lets us collaborating in any given moment. That's great for myself since i am teaching three diverse subjects and coaching at the same time time.
Once i can get the atmospheres, culture, and economic status to chance in our campus wiki can be usual in setting up lessons that can follow collaboration and group work that has the ability to demand and align everyone input.Wiki can also help my students in a one to one or group setting if concepts are hard to understand. In this situation team teaching, tutoring and peer tutoring can benefit students who do not understand the lesson or concept.
Like other colleagues have mentioned wiki can help parents view students progression and enhance the parent-student-teacher collaboration. Perfect tool to have in case parent conferences cannoty be made.
Jose,I think you are right that in the fairly near future we will be using wikis in a variety of ways - as usual. Hopefully the classroom internet infrastructure is on its way. I bet the collaborative wiki is great for working with other teachers in your situation you have so many balls up in the air at once with all the different classes and activities. To be able to have an active communication going on that you can access at convenient to you times is invaluable.
